Wadsworth Strings Program
The Wadsworth Magnet Elementary Strings Program includes our 4t ,5th ,and 6th grade students from beginners through intermediate levels of performance. We provide our students with an experience that will last forever.
The Wadsworth strings program helps our students to develop technical skills, knowledge and critical judgment. Orchestra helps students develop self-discipline evaluation, and perseverance to meet high standards. These habits of the mind, also support achievement in other subjects.
Our strings program teaches students about the musical heritage from ancient to contemporary times and diverse cultures. Students learn to appreciate the characteristics of various styles and understanding the context in which music is composed and performed. String students of the Wadsworth strings program are well versed in music covering the many aspects of music which includes, but not limited to music appreciation, history theory, and performance.
Our students start early learning to play their instruments. With our winter concert rapidly approaching ( December ) ,our students know that we have to work hard to make our performances the best. Our winter and spring concerts includes not only music, but also includes other talents that our students display ie. Poet, Dance etc. Wadsworth is also a major part of the Dekalb County Elementary Honor Orchestra every year. Here we have students from all of our Dekalb Elementary Schools come together to perform for parents and county administrators.
Upon graduating we want our students to be able to :
Recognize through aesthetic awareness that music is universal
Acquire skills necessary for life-long music learning application
Prepare and present a musically proficient
Make knowledgeable and discriminating judgments about music
Understand the relationship of music to other arts and non-arts disciplines
Enjoy and appreciate musical performances within their historical and cultural context
In a global society music functions as a universal “ language “ that can help our students find common ground across nations and languages.
