Title I Information

What does Title I mean?

Title I, Part A is a federal program that provides financial assistance to local school systems and schools to support the academic achievement of disadvantaged students. The DeKalb County School District receives Title I funds which are distributed to schools within their districts so the schools can provide additional academic support and learning opportunities to help children master challenging curricula and meet state standards in core academic subjects. Title I funds support extra instruction in reading and mathematics, additional teachers, materials of instruction, as well as after-school and summer programs to extend and reinforce the regular school curriculum.

What is the purpose of Title 1 funding?

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the purpose of Title 1 funding, "is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments."
